A calculator that simply reads the current calendar year will hand you the wrong number for a good portion of the population at any given moment.

How the number is worked out

The arithmetic is simple enough to do by hand. Take the day of your birth, the month of your birth, and the year your current cycle began. Add all the digits together, then keep adding the digits of the result until a single number between 1 and 9 remains.

Someone born on 14 March whose current cycle began in 2026 would add 1 + 4 + 3 + 2 + 0 + 2 + 6, giving 18, which reduces to 9. They are in a personal year 9 — a year of endings, clearing, and preparation for the fresh cycle that follows.

Notice that the birth year plays no part. Your personal year does not depend on how old you are, only on the date you arrived and where the calendar currently stands relative to it.

Why knowing your position in the cycle matters more than the number itself

A single number in isolation is only mildly interesting. The cycle around it is where the value sits.

If you are in a personal year 8, the thing worth knowing is not only that this is a year of material results — it is that a 9 year is coming next, and a 9 year clears the decks.
